Swiss researchers contend that alterations in white matter fiber tracts may facilitate auditory hallucinations. During inner ear speech, the alterations “lead to abnormal activation in regions related to acoustical processing of external stimuli and may therefore account for the patients’ inability to distinguish self-generated thoughts from external stimulation,” reported Daniela Hubl, MD.

Excessive exposure to television in childhood may be linked to inattention. Researchers found that television exposure in children ages 1 to 3 is associated with attention problems at age 7. In addition, the investigators determined that each hour of television watched per day increases a child’s risk of attention problems by almost 10% by age 7.
